One of the many great things about working with Fiona Kennedy is that she knows what she wants. When your client knows what they want and delivers a clear brief, the planning of the shoot is so much easier because there is no need to come up with suggestion after suggestion which never seems to quite get there. I came up with a few concepts, we made a few tweaks and we were there.

Okay maybe I’m make it sound a bit simpler than it really is but why dwell on the challenges. After all it is the challenges and coming up with fitting solutions is half the ‘fun’.

Furthermore because she knew what sort of look she was going for when it came to post production, it was again clear what was working and what needed to be modified. So we only needed a few revisions and we were there. What joy!

I mentioned at the beginning “one of the many great things” with regard to working with Fiona, because she is so delightful to work with, she has such style and her voice is wonderful, not to mention we also had fun. A great pleasure.

Its funny how things happen. I had just landed back in Ireland having been on holiday in Spain. I went to bed feeling relaxed and happy after my great trip.

As I was getting ready to start work the next morning I received a breathless phone call - could I video a talk for the Kinsale Peace Project in half an hour! As you can imagine there wasn't any time to think about this it was just 'yes' or 'no'.

When I heard myself saying "Sure, I can do that" my internal voice was screaming at me...which cameras, what about batteries, are they charged, lights, format cards, mics, leads, extra sockets...and so it went on. This is a sure fire way to get rid of your feelings of relaxation post holiday in a flash, not a recommendtion. Anyway I got there with about a minute to spare and no time for planning or set-up. So this was what is know as a 'run and gun' or that's what it felt like anyway.

Was it worth it? Definitely. Tomi was such an inspiring speaker.
I'm curious what did you find inspiring in his talk? Post in the comments below.

After Tomi saw the video this is what he said:
"It is very well filmed, the picture is sharp, lighting is perfect and also sound very clear. I will give the video full marks, well done!!!"

"The Beach" music video

"The Beach" was written and performed by Fiona Kennedy a wonderful singer songwriter from Cork. The song was inspired by memories of her childhood summer holidays and weekends spent on the beaches of her native West Cork. Of course summer holidays are a time of growing up and maturing, summer love and occasionally heartbreak - all a part of the experience.
This is the feature song of her album "The Beach". If you would like to download the album, individual tracks or the CD you can access it here:

Enjoy. I'd love to hear your thoughts and I'll pass them along to Fiona too :)

'Gobi' by fiona Kennedy

Fiona Kennedy is an exciting singer songwriter who was inspired by the story of the ultra marathon runner Dion Leonard and a brave little dog. Dion was befriended by a little dog who chose to run with him in the Gobi desert. Dion fell in love with the dog and eventually returned with her to the UK and you've guessed it called her 'Gobi'. He has written a book about the adventure called "Finding Gobi".

When Fiona decided to make a music video of her song she obviously didn't have 'Gobi' or even anything like Gobi but she did have her own greatly loved dog Tina. Tina willingly acted as a stand-in for Gobi and performed almost as brilliantly as Fiona.

You know what they say; never work with children or animals! For once they were wrong. We had a lot of fun shooting this video. I'm sure you'll agree Fiona's song is just terrific.

The video was shot on a tight budget over two days. It was edited in Nashville by David Montuy.

Video Christmas Card for Aqualogic

Are you sending Christmas cards this year? As you have probably discovered fewer and fewer Christmas cards are being sent each year. Why is this? Well I suspect it is partly because of social media and partly because between buying the cards, writing them and then the cost of postage they all can end up quite a costly. So when I was asked to create a video Christmas card that would take no time for the client and would be very cost effective and could be shared on social media and in email marketing, I thought what a great idea. So here is one of them...

It is so interesting to explore how video is developing through technology and the tools available with the investment costs dropping all the time. This is a video I made nearly 3 years ago using just a little handicam. and my iPhone.

Sadly Crackpots is no longer with us but the venue is  under new management and they are living up to the warm reception and great food of their predecessor. Thank you Carole for many great nights.

    Why News?

I share some of the video here as we create them for our clients. Obviously it is important that our client likes the work and we make revisions until the client says it is ready (within reason.)  That said the client needs to be happy at the script stage ever before the filming starts.
